THE historic Flash movie
Yes, the two subsequent movies in the Brackenwood genre are impressive and perhaps technically superior, but this one came first ... Like Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band for The Beatles, there may have been better music since, but Sgt. Peppers came *first*, riding its wave of revolutionary vision ...
OK, more practically put, Adam Phillips is a pioneer and a legend. The depth of beauty and mystery in Brackenwood is comparable to the best of any medium from any era. This cartoon showed what I'd always thought was possible in the democratic world of Flash but never expected to see embodied so soon (let alone mastered with such grace and apparent ease). This cartoon, as well as its two predecessors and two sequels, are superbly entertaining, comedic, and inspiring. The directing and story telling is compelling, subtle, and brilliant at once. The art is incredible, water-colour fantasies loaded with myth and folklore. The characters are true to life: weird and quirky. What else can I say but Thank You !!!
If I have any advice for the Mr. Phillips, it is this: do not become fixated on technical limitations and mechanical possibilities. The greatest story ever told could be with stick men ... Priorize your time wisely ... Michael Menion
